During a gubernatorial campaign event for Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Nikki Fried, a Democrat, one Cuban resident took aim at recent comments from Republican Lt. Gov. Jeanette Nuñez.“Nikki Fried will be our next governor, and she will not be sending Cubans to Delaware,” Tony Argiz, South Florida managing partner at accounting firm BDO USA, said in a video shared by Matthew Van Name, Frieds advisor and strategic manager.“I mean Cubans have been part of the Miami economy since the early 60s,” he continued. “To say that were gonna send illegal Cubans to Delaware, come on,” he said. The comment is an apparent reference to comments Nuñez made during an interview with 1040 AM Actualidad Radio on Friday, in which she was asked about recent migration from Cuba. She responded by talking about Gov. Ron DeSantiss plan to ship illegal immigrant to Delaware, President Joseph Bidens home state. After backlash, Nuñez issued a statement saying that her comments were misinterpreted. “Entering the country illegally and fleeing a dictatorship to seek asylum are two different things, and misrepresenting that is offensive,” she said.
