The man accused of attacking Paul Pelosi has been charged with the attempted kidnap of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. David DePape, 42, allegedly broke into the Pelosis San Francisco home on Friday and assaulted Paul Pelosi, 82, with a hammer. Investigators say the attack was politically motivated, and that DePape was allegedly hoping to hold Nancy Pelosi, who is second in line to the presidency, hostage. The Department of Justice charged DePape with the attempted kidnap and one count of assaulting a family member of a US official in retaliation for the performance of their duties. The San Francisco District Attorneys office brought additional charges including attempted murder and elder abuse.
