A pair of climate activists threw a can of soup on Vincent Van Goghs “Sunflowers” painting at Londons National Gallery on Friday. Photos shared by the group Just Stop Oil show the protesters kneeling in front of the painting, and one is holding the empty can. The painting and its frame are covered in what appears to be tomato soup. Just Stop Oil is demanding that the U.K. end all new oil and gas projects. The National Gallery in a statement said that the pair “appeared to glue themselves to the wall adjacent to Van Goghs Sunflowers (1888).” Their hands can be seen flat against the wall in the photos. The National Gallery said the masterpiece was unharmed, but there was minor damage to the frame. Both activists were arrested, the museum said.
