Activists in Akron, Ohio, say protesters jailed on Sunday night were still languishing in Summit County Jail Tuesday without access to medications. On Sunday night, Akron Police used tear gas to disperse a protest against the police killing of Jayland Walker, and made several arrests. On Tuesday, more protesters gathered outside the Summit County Jail to protest their fellow activists’ continued detention. A video shared by the activist group Freedom BLOC shows a woman who says her daughter was arrested. They’ve closed the jail, and they’re not letting any inmates get access to medical devices, medicines, or in some cases access to their families, she says. Someone off camera tells her they’re putting together a bail fund. She said her daughter was supposed to be arraigned Tuesday, but that the judges simply didn’t show up. The judges didn’t show, she says. When you go on the court’s website it says arraignment was at 8 a.m. this morning [Tuesday], and when I called down there they couldn’t even explain it to me. They were like, the judges’ not the judge, the judges’ decided not to show. Decided not to show. So they get to protest, a voice says. I don’t know, she says. Can you guys all just not show up for your job when you don’t feel like it?
