The youth climate movement Fridays For Future held a global strike on Friday to demand justice and reparations for communities most affected by climate change. A video shared by independent journalist Liv Stroud shows a massive crowd of protesters gathered at Invalidenpark in Berlin, Germany. “Colonizers and capitalists are at the core of every system of oppression that has caused the climate crisis, and decolonization, using the tool of climate reparations, is the best kind of climate action,” Fridays For Future says on its website promoting the strike. “The richest capitalist 1%, must be held responsible for their actions and willful ignorance. Their profit is our death. Their profit is our suffering.” Fridays For Future began in 2018 when youth climate activist Greta Thunberg, then 15, started a school strike for climate and demonstrated in front of the Swedish parliament. Since then, Fridays For Future strike events have taken place in thousands of cities around the world, involving millions of demonstrators.
