Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) was booed at a Somali music festival in Minneapolis on Saturday night.
The first Somali-American elected to Congress appeared on stage with her husband Tim Mynett at the Target Center Saturday night, in front of a mostly Somali crowd gathered to see Somali singer Suldaan Seeraar.
The event came during Somali Week, which this year marks 62 years of Somalia’s independence.
Some on social media have suggested the Somali community has turned on Omar due to her support of the LGBTQ community, and her opposition to the Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade, the 1973 ruling that protected abortion rights at the federal level.
