Demonstrators gathered at the Indiana Statehouse in Indianapolis on Monday as lawmakers debated a Republican bill to ban abortions except in the cases of rape and incest, or to save the life of the mother.
Mostly abortion-rights protesters, along with some anti-abortion protesters, turned out with signs and slogans, while the state Senate heard testimony on the bill during a special session.
A video shared by Twitter user Teresa Zimmers shows abortion-rights protesters gathered outside the state Senate chamber, holding signs and chanting, pro-life, that’s a lie, they don’t care if people die.
Indiana is the first state to consider a new bill restricting abortions since the U.S. Supreme Court last month overturned Roe v. Wade, the 1973 ruling that protected abortion rights at the federal level.
