Education activists disrupted a community meeting on Monday to demand New York City Mayor Eric Adams restore cuts to the education budget. Declining school enrollment prompted a $375 million funding cut, but according to the mayor, federal stimulus money will fill some of the gap, resulting in cuts of about $215 million citywide. A video shared by New Yorkers for Racially Just Public Schools shows protesters with that group as well as with Make the Road NY and the MORE caucus of the United Federation of Teachers disrupting a Community Conversation on public safety in Harlem. As the video opens, a protester is speaking, and Adams points to him and says, see this is the clown, this is the clown. This is what we are up against, Adams says as the protester is escorted out by security. People want to spend time being disruptive. That’s what people want to do. Another protester steps up to interrupt Adams, and she, too, is quickly escorted out by security.
