Megan Rapinoe, Simone Biles and others receive Presidential Medal of Freedom

Gymnast Simone Biles has received the Presidential Medal of Freedom. President Joe Biden honored Biles with the award during a ceremony at the White House on July 7. The 25-year-old athlete is the youngest person to ever receive the honor. Biles was honored alongside soccer star Megan Rapinoe. Gun control advocate and former Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was also a recipient. Cindy McCain wife of former Senator John McCain accepted a posthumous award on her husbands behalf. Apple founder Steve Jobs was also a posthumous honoree of the nations highest civilian honor. Laurene Powell Jobs wife at the time of his 2011 death was in attendance to receive his medal. In all, 17 people were presented with the Presidential Medal of Freedom during this years ceremony. The White House said the honorees were selected for making exemplary contributions to the U.S. and the world.
