Published

on

Thousands of workers with the U.K. Royal Mail were on strike Friday, with more walkouts to come between now and Christmas, according to the Communication Workers Union. Unionized Royal Mail workers voted 97.6% in favor of the strike, after they say a 2% pay deal was imposed on them without their agreement. They rejected an offer the union says fail to keep up with the U.K.s inflation rate of 11.8%. According to the Royal Mail Group, its best and final offer included an enhanced pay deal of up to 9% over 18 months. A video shared by Twitter user @jasonfrancis71 shows striking workers rallying in London on Friday. Additional actions are planned for Dec. 11, 14, 15, 23 and Christmas Eve on Dec. 24, according to the union.
