Protesters gathered at the University of New Mexicos Albuquerque campus where conservative commentator Tomi Lahren was speaking Thursday night. The “Talking with Tomi” event was hosted by the conservative organization Turning Point USA inside the student union building. Protesters gathered outside the event, before eventually making their way into the building, chanting and banging on the walls of the room where the speech was taking place. The event was ultimately cut short. A video shared by Lissa Knudsen, a PhD candidate at the university, shows Lahren posing for a photo before being escorted out of the rear exit along with attendees. A siren can be heard blaring in the background. Lahrens speech touched on President Donald Trump, inflation and illegal immigration as she encouraged the young conservatives in attendance to vote in the upcoming midterm elections. Two attendees left after she asserted that drug cartels are funded by migrants paying to be smuggled into the U.S. “People are dying coming over here. Not only are they dying coming over here, but they are funding the criminal organizations that are killing us. The fentanyl … and methamphetamine … its being funded by the people that are also coming into our country illegally and then living off of our communities.” When they left, Lahren joked that “it probably wasnt because of illegal immigration. Things close here at 9 p.m. because no one wants to work, so they were probably trying to get dinner.” A short time later the protest outside became louder and made it difficult for Lahren to continue. “People getting buck wild out there? Whats happening? People going wild out there,” she asked. After a brief pause, Lahren took a couple of questions from the audience before organizers ended the event.
