Climate activists smeared chocolate cake on a waxwork model of King Charles III at the Madame Tussauds museum in London on Monday. A video shared by the activist group Just Stop Oil shows two protesters standing with wax figures of King Charles and Camilla, the Queen Consort, along with the Prince and Princess of Wales. They remove their shirts to reveal Just Stop Oil T-shirts underneath, then smash cake onto the face of the King Charles model. “In the words of the king, the science is clear. The demand is simple: Just stop oil. Its a piece of cake,” said protester Tom Johnson, 29. He was joined by Eilidh McFadden, 20. Johnson went on to quote part of a 2019 speech made by King Charles at Lincoln University in New Zealand. “For the past, what, 40-50 years I have been driven by an overwhelming desire not, to be confronted by my grandchildren … demanding to know why I didnt do anything to prevent them being bequeathed a poisoned and destroyed planet. Now, of course, we are indeed being confronted by these very children, demanding immediate action and not just words.” The activist group said the protest comes as the king has abandoned plans to attend and speak at the upcoming United Nations Climate Change Conference. He was advised not to attend by former Prime Minister Liz Truss.
