Following a failed tax-cutting budget that shook financial markets and sparked a rebellion within her own Conservative Party, British Prime Minister Liz Truss announced her resignation last week.
Truss served as prime minister for the shortest period of time in British history – 44 days.
She declared in a statement, “I cannot deliver the mandate on which I was elected by the Conservative Party. I have therefore spoken to His Majesty the King to announce that I am resigning as leader of the Conservative Party.”
The party is expected to finalize its leadership election within the upcoming week.
